Nine Corvettes left Moncton on Saturday morning bound for Yarmouth, NS. There were several rest stops along the way, as well as a lunch stop at the Swiss Chalet in Halifax and we arrived at our motel in Yarmouth in the late afternoon. Everyone was on their own until dinner at The Rudder Restaurant (not quick but good) and then we went on a group drive to see the sunset at Cape Forchu Lighthouse. This is a short drive but there are lots of curves, hills and scenery along the way to make it very interesting and this is one of the most picturesque lighthouses in the region.
Saturday morning we drove the Evangeline Trail along the coast of the Bay of Fundy, stopping first at the Meteghan Wharf and then at one of the many majestic churches in this area - great photo ops and an opportunity to get out, stretch the legs and socialize. We stopped in Digby for a nice lunch and then travelled on to Port Royal, the second oldest French settlement on the North American continent, the oldest being Saint Augustine, Florida. In the course of our tour, we learned a bit of history and got to imagine what it would have been like to live here more than 400 years ago and to appreciate the world we live in today. Life would have been particularly brutal at the settlement because there were no women living there, just a bunch of guys! After our visit at Port Royal, we continued on to our second motel stop in New Minas and had a quiet evening with a very nice dinner at the motel.
Day 3 consisted of a scenic drive through the Rawdon Hills from New Minas to Truro along Corvette friendly roads - lots of turns and twists. We stopped at the lighthouse in Walton and a craft shop in Maitland - scenery and shopping, something for everyone. Lunch was at the Saltscapes Restaurant and Gift Shop just outside Truro and then it was a mad dash for home - some dashed faster than others! All in all, lots of good stories and memories.
